I was sure FIFA rules require that a team fields a minimum of 7 players. However, the Champions League match on Tuesday that I watched was between Manuel Neuer and Manchester United. The Red Devils passed the ball around as though they were playing against Smurfs who built a brick wall in goal. I'd rather watch Balotelli put on his clothes.
For a titillating contest, how about the champions of Portugal against the fourth best side in La Liga? This match justifies just why the Europa League is just as exciting, if not more than the Champions League. Knowing myself, footballing lessons can be learnt from any match played and this blog aims to summarise these points just for you.
A clash between my favourite Portugese team and my choice Spanish side showed once again just why the cliche goes : Football is a game of 2 halves.
Match Highlights:
FC Porto v Villarreal by buzzensport
Take-Home Lesson(s):
You always need men on the posts to defend corners. I think they could have prevented the 2 headed goals that Porto scored from.
Manager Watch:
Just looking at Villas Boas' goal celebrations and fashion style, I finally understand why he's labelled the next Mourinho. (I mean besides their other similarities like success at Porto.) However, looking at The Special One's recent mental breakdown after too much "mind games", I hope AVB does not tread the same path. You may wear a suit but it does not mean you're classy, Mou.
